Retro pictures of full-frontal 18-year-old Madonna completely naked are expected to make $100,000 at auction

She’s hardly the shy and retiring type.

So it’s perhaps not surprising that full-frontal naked pictures of Madonna have surfaced – more than 40 years after they were first taken.

The previously unseen graphic images date back from her earliest shoot in 1976, when she was still a student in Michigan, and can now be obtained by die-hard fans.

Expected to cause a commotion after going up for sale today, the snaps form part of a wider lot which also include the ‘LIke A Virgin’ wedding dress and a lacy bra.

Together, they’re estimated to fetch $200,000 at legendary New York City auction house Gotta Have Rock and Roll , where they’ll be up for grabs until 1 December.

The 100+ naked images, taken by photographer Cecil Taylor in 1976, show the young superstar of the future in a variety of poses from at a ballet studio to posing without bottoms. They are expected to generate offers of $1,200 (£1,000) each.

Other items include a signed and inscribed concert tour shirt to her make-up artist with the words: ‘Thanks for always making me look so beautiful’ for $1.2k (900GBP).

A tour-worn wedding dress for performances of ‘Like a Virgin’ could sell for $1,500 (£1,150) while a black leather hat worn for the cover of Italian Vogue is priced at $4,000 (£3,000).

There’s also a red lace bra for $1,000 (£755), handwritten notes – including to do list – and annotated photo contact sheets for her book ‘Sex’ released in 1992.

Ed Kosinski, co-owner of Gotta Have Rock and Roll, said: “There are important Madonna items, including photographs from her first nude photo session at after turning 18-years-old in Ann Arbour, Michigan.

“This was before she moved to New York or her career began, we believe it’s the earliest nude Madonna’s photoshoot. The nude photos stand out more than anything else in our Madonna section, it’s the earliest known nude session before she was famous.

“Who knew what she was thinking, she was in art school at the town in her own small town, so they really stand out to me. Madonna had done a lot of nude photo sessions and there are others when she was in her 20s trying to make it in the business.”

He continued: “But this photoshoot was just when she had turned 18 and it was pretty remarkable for her to do this. I think she was driven her whole life but at 18 wanted to make it anyway she could, whether it be as a model or an artist.

“I don’t know why she do it, but the shoot is a beautiful photo session that not many 18 year olds from a small town would do. We have a great deal of Madonna items from handwritten letters to more.

“I think the auction will do very well, it’s just a great opportunity for collectors to acquire items that they would never have had any chance to before. We also have a collection of 63 original contact sheets for Madonna’s book Sex, from various shoots, we have a great deal of Madonna items.”

Madonna Louise Ciccone (/tʃɪˈkoʊni/; born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. A leading presence during the emergence of MTV in the 1980s, Madonna is known for pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music, as well as visual imagery in music videos and on stage. She has also frequently reinvented both her music and image while maintaining autonomy within the recording industry. Besides sparking controversy, her works have been praised by music critics. Referred to as the “Queen of Pop”, Madonna is often cited as an influence by other artists.

Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist and vocalist in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, Madonna signed with Sire Records in 1982 and released her eponymous debut album the next year. She followed it with a series of successful albums, including the global bestsellers, Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986), as well as the Grammy Award winners, Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Throughout her career, Madonna has written and produced most of her songs, with many of them reaching number one on the record charts, including “Like a Virgin”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Like a Prayer”, “Vogue”, “Take a Bow”, “Frozen”, “Music”, “Hung Up”, and “4 Minutes”.

Madonna’s popularity was further enhanced by her roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), and Evita (1996). While the latter earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, many of her other films received poor reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded her own entertainment company Maverick, including the label Maverick Records, in 1992. Her other ventures include fashion design, writing children’s books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She also contributed in various charities and founded the Raising Malawi organization in 2006.

Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the second highest-certified female artist in the U.S., with 64.5 million album units. According to Billboard, Madonna is the most successful solo act on its Hot 100 singles chart and second overall behind the Beatles. She is also the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, earning U.S. $1.4 billion from her concert tickets. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, Madonna topped VH1’s countdown of 100 Greatest Women in Music. Additionally, Rolling Stone listed her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.
